It has finally arrived for your listening pleasure. Sound Unsound proudly presents:
Bhangra Bootay
Do you remember your first Vaisakhi festival? The stringed pizzicato of the iktar coupled with the glissando of the tumbi had the Punjabis whirling. Throw in the beats of the dohl and the chimta and, well, you have one helluva party. One need not be Indo-Aryan, Himachal Pradeshian, or even New Dhelian. The Uttar Predesh tones emanate from Southern UK with mARKYBOY, the dulcet vox and beat box groove of Himachal Pradesh is actually from Newport, UK thanks to Oscar TG, and you would think Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda commissioned DJ Useo to make all of Michigan twist their sepia booties all night long to a lilting female temptress call. Just yesterday, the Toronto paper shouted Malkit Singh is no longer the golden voice of the Punjab — Maxwell Jump is. Not only do the Eastern Asian youth find RebornIdentity with the bhangra sound, but the cats in Manchester do as well. Missy Eliot may have introduced the bell-toned beats to the 2000s America, but Bobby Martini made it a seeming mandate from Priest King Mohenjo-daro. And, after listening to this comp, if Eamezy and neiltomo do not have their Ph.Ds (Producers of Hott Dub) from Guru Nanak Dev University, then the Sindhis have every right to rebel. Whether your dance of choice is the Luddi, Giddha, Julli, Daankara,or Dhamal, Guv’nor , Mr. Rusty, and mattbland provide the nonstop toe-to-palming and ass-shakin’ . So, imagine DJ Spider wearing his traditional Jugi as he spins those eclectic beats, and Sfreeman41 holding his Malwai Giddha in one hand while hitting an 808 with the left as you take a culturally diverse quest to find the Farsi fusion. As they say in all Punjabi regions, “Makaharsi albretkita, Ross.” Thanks for the Movement.
